Translation from invitation card
Jurgen Ostarhild is a Berlin-based visual artist who uses light and code as a canvas.
He creates image machines, site-specific installations, multiples and printed artifacts to examine the limits of concrete imagery in the post-photographic landscape. His current work explores distributed data networks such as public blockchains to produce real-time performances of coded light drawings from the tradition of American color field painting and concrete art.
“DanceFloor” is a constantly changing, multi-scalable camouflage pattern based on the Bitcoin price. The fluctuation of the Bitcoin value creates the color field shifts, which are updated every minute.
The work addresses the post-pandemic conditions for systems of decentralization and autonomy (DAOs) as well as the impact of the cryptocurrency boom on artistic production.
