Du paysage? Non. C’est un double travail que nous propose ici Jurgen Ostarhild, travail de relecture d’une tradition, celle du paysage du romantisme allemand, d’abord, mais aussi travail de neutralisation émotive, de distanciation ironique. C’est dans cet entre-deux que le sens se creuse, référence lyrique et déréalisation critique, comme si le paysage était coupé de sa sève et de son flot de sentiment romantique et d’emphase. Le thème est alors comme vitrifié, et imperceptiblement décalé. Ce bougé tend donc à la déréalisation et à la classification, à la fois travail sur soi, ascèse et purification de tout sentimentalisme, et travail de greffier du réel, de codification naturaliste, de constitution de séries. Le thème du paysage est expurgé et bascule dans celui de la technique déréalisante, réflexion sur l’acte de photographie et la constitution d’un «réel».

Landscape? No. It is a double work that Jurgen Ostarhild offers us here, a work of rereading a tradition, that of the landscape of German romanticism, first, but also a work of emotional neutralization, of ironic distancing. It is in this in-between that the meaning is hollowed out, lyrical reference and critical derealization, as if the landscape were cut off from its sap and its flow of romantic feeling and emphasis. The theme is then as if vitrified, and imperceptibly shifted. This shift therefore tends towards derealization and classification, at the same time work on oneself, asceticism and purification of all sentimentality, and the work of clerk of the real, of naturalistic codification, of constitution of series. The theme of the landscape is expurgated and switches to that of the derealizing technique, a reflection on the act of photography and the constitution of a "reality".
